What this section covers

This section brings together practical materials about staking: how the market works, which conditions matter, what risks are hidden in the details and how to compare products without relying on advertising claims.

  • key concepts, terminology and product mechanics

Staking crypto with rewards and lockups in view

Decide whether to stake directly, delegate to a validator, use a pool, or accept a liquid staking token, and understand who controls the keys in each arrangement. Check activation and exit queues, unbonding periods, validator commission, slashing exposure, reward variability, tax treatment, and the steps required to claim or compound rewards.

Frequently asked questions

How can staking offers with similar yields be compared?

Compare net reward rate after commission and fees, validator performance, decentralisation, custody, lockup terms, slashing policy, minimum balance, compounding method, liquidity, and smart-contract exposure. For liquid staking, also examine token peg history, redemption depth, protocol governance, and how widely the derivative is used as collateral.

Are staking rewards guaranteed passive income?

No. Network issuance, validator uptime, participation rates, token prices, commissions, and protocol rules can all change the return, while slashing or service failure can reduce principal. Yield quoted in tokens may still correspond to a loss in fiat terms if the asset's market value falls.
